Core Shortcuts

Choose your system

Use the toggle to check the shortcut names for your keyboard. Windows currently supports the core hold-to-record path; the extra global shortcuts are macOS-only in this release.

macOS Windows

DictationHold Fn by default, or choose Caps Lock / Right Option in Settings.

Polish ModeShift + Command + Space toggles final-message polish.

Selected textOption + 1..5 runs polish/convert shortcuts.

Shortcut	What it does
Fn hold	Record while held. Release to process and type the final output into the active app.
FnSpace	Long dictation lock. Start recording, lock it, then press Fn again to finish.
⇧⌘Space	Toggle Polish Mode for voice dictation. When on, AirNote waits and pastes the polished message once.
⌥1	Polish selected message. Select text in any app, press left Option + 1, and AirNote replaces only that selection with polished English.
⌥2	Selected-text English conversion/cleanup shortcut.
⌥5	Selected-text Hinglish shortcut.
⌃⌘V	Paste the last AirNote output again if the target app rejected the first paste.
⌘⌥R	Retry the last dictation. First press re-pastes the last output; press again quickly to reprocess the last recording when audio is available.

Shortcut	What it does

Right Alt hold	Optional record key if you choose Right Alt in Settings. The Fn key is not available as a Windows global modifier.

Rule of thumb: normal dictation is fast and direct. Polish Mode is for messages that should sound professional, so it intentionally waits for the final polished version and pastes once.

Voice mode

Turn on Polish Mode with ⇧⌘Space on macOS. The Windows global shortcut is not wired in this release.

Speak normally with your record key: Fn on macOS by default, or Caps Lock on Windows by default.

The target app receives only the final polished message. No draft text is streamed into the field.

Move The Status Pill

Placement

Make the status pill movable on macOS with ⇧⌘/. The Windows HUD placement shortcut is not wired in this release.

Drag the pill anywhere that feels comfortable for your screen.

Reset it to center on macOS with ⇧⌘..

The pill can sit near the bottom, near the notch, or wherever it does not block your work.

Select the rough message in Slack, WhatsApp, Gmail, Chrome, Notes, or any editable app.

Press ⌥1 on macOS. The Windows Alt + 1 selected-text shortcut is not wired in this release.

AirNote replaces only the selected text. It should not hit Enter or send the message.

Polish Mode improves language and structure, but it should preserve names, numbers, rates, dates, legal/commercial facts, questions, and intent.

Your Mac learns locally

Edit a proper noun, brand, acronym, or code word after dictation. AirNote learns that correction on your machine.

Company

Company bucket

Enterprise users can receive approved company-wide words on day one, without rebuilding personal vocabulary from scratch.

Safety

Common words are blocked

Common Hindi, Hinglish, and English words should not become aliases for company terms.

Permissions Needed

System	What AirNote needs
macOS	Accessibility to type or replace text, Input Monitoring to detect global shortcuts like Fn / Option + 1 / Shift + Command + Space, and Microphone to record your voice.
Windows	Microphone for dictation. AirNote uses the Windows keyboard hook for global shortcuts and SendInput for typing, so there is no macOS-style Accessibility or Input Monitoring grant.
