Get started

• Download AirNote for a Mac with Apple silicon, running macOS 13 or later. Open the file and drag AirNote to Applications.
• Open AirNote and follow the setup. It asks for three permissions, then downloads Clario C1, the speech model, about 141 MB.
• The last step is your first dictation: hold the key, speak, let go, and watch the text land in the box.
• Sign in to use polish and to keep your History on every desktop. AirNote types what you said without it.

Permissions

macOS asks for each of these once. All three are needed for AirNote to work in every app.

If one was declined, turn it on in System Settings → Privacy & Security, then quit and reopen AirNote.

Dictate

• Hold your key and talk. Let go, and the text is typed where your cursor is. The key is Fn by default; you can choose Caps Lock or any modifier key in Settings.
• Or tap it to start, and tap again to stop.
• For a long dictation, press Space while you are holding the key. AirNote keeps listening after you let go, with a timer on the pill, until you press the key again.
• Speak English, Hindi or both. Hinglish is typed in Roman script, the way you would type it in a chat.

The status pill

A small pill at the bottom of the screen shows what AirNote is doing.

• A red dot and moving dots: listening. The dots rise with your voice.
• Text above the dots: what AirNote is hearing, as you speak.
• A blue dot with a ring around it: polishing.
• A check: the text has been typed.
• A message with a shortcut: AirNote could not type into this field, and the text is ready for you to paste.

To move the pill, press ⇧⌘/, drag it, and press the shortcut again. ⇧⌘. puts it back in the middle.

If you chose another dictation key, it takes Fn's place above. On the Windows beta, Caps Lock is the default key and hold-to-talk works the same way; the other shortcuts are for the Mac.

Polish

Polish fixes punctuation, drops filler words like "umm", and spells your Dictionary words your way. It runs on a server, so it needs you to be signed in.

• Turn it on or off in Settings. Off, AirNote types exactly what you said, and nothing leaves your Mac to be polished.
• Selected text can be polished on its own with ⌥1: AirNote replaces only the selection and does not send the message.

Dictionary

Add the names, brands and terms AirNote should spell your way: what it hears on the left, how to write it on the right (the left side is optional). When you correct a name after AirNote typed it, it adds the fix itself and shows "Learned" on the pill, with Undo.

The Dictionary is used by polish. With polish off, the list is kept but not applied.

History and Insights

• History lists every dictation: the text you kept, with what AirNote typed one click away. Search it, copy from it, or export it.
• Insights counts words dictated, time saved against typing, your speaking pace, your streak and which apps your words went to.
